Renting a car with Africar is a simple and straightforward process.
We require a few key documents to ensure a quick and safe rental experience. All drivers must hold a valid driving license from their home country. If your driver’s license is not written in English or French, or if you are visiting from abroad, we recommend carrying an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside your original license. This ensures full compliance with Rwandan traffic regulations and smooth verification at pick-up.
To confirm your identity, please present a valid passport (for international clients) or national identification card (for Rwandan residents). Your passport should include a valid visa or entry stamp confirming your stay in Rwanda. Additionally, a credit or debit card issued in the main driver’s name is required for payment and security deposit purposes.
The deposit amount varies depending on the vehicle type and rental duration.
— Drivers must be at least 21 years old and have held a valid driver’s license for at least one to two years.
— For larger vehicles, such as SUVs or 4x4s, we may require the driver to be at least 25 years of age, depending on the insurance conditions.
— If you are planning to travel outside of Rwanda — for example, to Uganda, Tanzania, or the DRC — please notify our team in advance so that we can prepare the necessary cross-border authorization and extended insurance documents.
At Africar, our goal is to ensure a seamless booking experience for our clients. Please ensure that all necessary documentation is available, select your preferred vehicle, and we will take care of everything else. Our goal is to ensure that you drive off with confidence, comfort, and complete peace of mind.
